Three year anniversary of the Nepal earthquake: Over half a village built

On 25th April 2015, a devastating earthquake struck Nepal with such magnitude that tremors were felt in neighbouring Pakistan and India. Tens of thousands of people were displaced, and thousands remain living in shacks and within temporary accommodation.

Summary of the Thangpalkot1 project
This beautiful hillside village is located six and a half hour’s drive from Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. In this village, 86 of the 94 houses were flattened. Sadly, the government is only able to offer new housing to those living within a two hour radius from Kathmandu.

The Fine & Country Foundation has supported the rebuilding project since February 2017. A donation of £16,000 provided funding for 10 houses in March 2017 and our trek to Everest Base Camp in October 2017 raised an incredible £32,000 for a further 20 houses.

Our support for Thangpalkot1 continues during 2018: we raised £1,296.13 at our annual conference in February and individual offices have dedicated their support for the village.

Thanks to all your hard work and support, 50 houses have now been funded and 41 of these are completed or receiving some finishing touches.

What do your donations fund?
Every penny raised for Thangpalkot1 goes directly to the villagers to help them build their new houses. The cost of a house is now £1,800, up from £1,600 due to inflation and improved materials. This money provides:

• Cement

• Steel

• Roof materials

• Welders

• Transport of materials from Kathmandu to Thangpalkot1

The villagers build the houses themselves, find volunteers from neighbouring houses or pay for builders themselves.

Each house takes around four weeks to build, so you can see the finished product of your support and the family’s happy faces very soon.

Please help us fund more houses and change more lives for generations by donating to our May trekking team here.

Recent news from Thangpalkot1: CONGRATULATIONS RENZEN
Renzen, Village Co-ordinator in Thangpalkot1, got married in February 2018. Congratulations Renzen, we wish you and your new bride all the happiness.

Watch this short clip below to see misty views over the stunning hillside, featuring new housing developments. The new, shiny rooftops show some of the 41 houses which are built thanks to your hard work and support.

Our next adventure to Thangpalkot1
Following the success and enthusiasm from our trek to Everest Base Camp last year, we are delighted to return to the village with a new group of eager trekkers. The team of 14 trekkers will walk from Kathmandu to the village, passing through rarely seen areas of Nepal that the earthquake effected. Once at the village, the team will meet the families they are supporting, see the progress already made in the village and help with the building process. Find out more about the trek here.

Please support our trekkers and help us get closer to funding another house. Click here to donate.

Do you want to go on an adventure of a lifetime? Contact us today to register your interest for our next trek at foundation@fineandcountry.com or call +44(0) 20 3368 8221.

Houses funded by our Everest Base Camp exhibition
This lady has waited patiently through monsoons and cold winters for nearly three years. Thanks to your support for our Everest Base Camp team, her house has been funded and building works have begun. The house will be completed by the end of April.
