Four avid cyclists from Fine & Country Bury St Edmunds embarked on a 200 mile sponsored cycle to York on Thursday 25 May. It took them two and half days and they burnt approximately 6,000 calories on both Friday and Saturday, but it was all worth it. Not only did they reach York without any major hiccups, but they have raised an incredible £1,837.
The team consisted of Neil Petit, Yannis Prodromou, Kelly Law and Bobbi Findlay.
“We mainly stuck together for motivation, which was really effective, but occasionally the guys went ahead to do sprint races. Kelly and I didn’t mind the sprints because it meant that we could hang back and chat,” said Bobbi Findlay, Client Consultant at Fine & Country Bury St Edmunds.
“It was such an incredible experience; the weather was better than expected, and the route was less hilly than predicted. Three miles before the end I spotted a milestone, then crashed into the back of Kelly’s bike. Thankfully, we were both fine and couldn’t help but laugh.”
Bobbi continued, “We were lucky to have a support car, which was essential for keeping our pace throughout the 200 mile journey. We were burning so many calories and drinking around seven litres of water per day so it was essential to eat plenty of food to keep our energies up.”
When the team arrived in York, they were met by people who had just finished their day at the races. Their beautiful outfits and well-groomed hair slightly contrasted the muddy Bury St Edmunds team in their florescent biking gear.
Charlotte Schofield, Fundraising Events Coordinator said, “All of us at the Fine & Country Foundation are incredibly proud of their remarkable achievement. We couldn’t be happier that they reached York and their contribution will make a valuable difference to homelessness. The team will inspire others to get involved and challenge themselves in future charity events.”
As well as the generous donations from family friends, businesses and fans, the Bury St Edmunds team will receive £200 from Agents Giving manage The Rightmove Fund. Yvonne Martin from Agents Giving said, “We are so pleased that the Fine & Country Foundation is supporting Agents Giving and The Rightmove Fund. We are looking forward to seeing them reach their targets and hear about all their events.”
